If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

The cookie will expire in one year. If you delete the cookie from your computer or don’t accept the message, you will receive the message again.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics which uses cookies to collect data related to the device/browser, IP address and on-site/app activities to measure and report statistics about user interactions on our website.  In addition, Google uses IP addresses to derive the geolocation of a visitor.

Google provides detailed Information for Visitors of Sites and Apps using Google Analytics, as well as an optional brower add-on that – once installed and enabled – disables measurement by Google Analytics for any site the user visits.

Google Adsense

We use Google Adsense to display ads on our website. Google uses cookies to help serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalize advertising by visiting the Ads Settings at Google.

If you click on a Google AdSense Ad, I get a small commission if you purchase something.

Amazon Affiliate Links

We occasionally have Amazon Affiliate links to products at Amazon. If you click an Amazon Affiliate link, a cookie is placed on your computer to identify that you came from www.lookingupthedust.com. If you make a purchase at Amazon within 24 hours, we normally get a small commission from Amazon.

Embedded content from other websites

Occasionally we embed content from other websites (most likely videos from YouTube). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Managing Cookies

You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through your browser settings. Since each browser is a little different, look at your browser’s Help Menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies.

If you disable cookies entirely, it may turn off some of the features of the site.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

We keep the information on our email list until it is no longer needed or you request that your information be deleted.  If you unsubscribe, and no longer wish to receive email we will still keep your email address to make sure that you don’t get added back to the list.

The data is maintained in Google Analytics for 30 months.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
